Short motorcycle ride from Vegas
In light of the fact we just got back (ok it’s been two weeks, but I had a kidney stone in there) from Las Vegas I thought a write up of a short trip from Las Vegas might be in order. This is a trip that we took back in October of 2010 during a conference we were attending. Enjoy….. The Strip to Valley of Fire, Moapa Valley, and back View Larger Map After a large breakfast at the buffets we...

Bishop to Vegas, Through Fire and Ice
Ok so the fire was the day before, but it seemed fitting. From Bishop we took Route 6, whose views are amazing . See, amazing. I don’t lie As we climbed in elevation we came across some snow, which slowly got worse as we passed over Montgomery Pass where we learned that although you may think it is spring, Mother Nature will hang on to winter as long as she can. This is the same pass...

Some actual information on the Death Valley Ride
So the riding in Death Valley was amazing. You have miles of road with really no one on it and some nice curves and dips in elevation. We started from Shoshone and took Highway 178 up to Furnace Creek. View Larger Map This road hugs the east side boundary mountains and you really get a good view of some alluvial flows and the salt bed near Badwater Basin. We also got to see some wildflowers...

Motorcycling Death Valley Day 1 Las Vegas to...
The ride from Flagstaff to Las Vegas by I-40 is uneventful and boring so I recommend that unless you have a time deadline or like to be bored out of your skull take Old Route 66 from Seligman to Kingman and then drive through Laughlin. (Most of this ride description can be found in the Eastern Route 66 post and the soon to be updated Short Rides from Las Vegas in October post) So once we got into...

Western Section of Arizona Route 66 (Seligman,...
What started as a quick trip to Laughlin turned into a journey into appreciating my grandparents past history on the mother road. It was mid-May and I was bored. We had been down to Sedona too many times, out to Winslow, to Strawberry for pie. Now it was excellent pie I admit, but we were bored. What hadn’t we done yet? What was quick enough for a day trip, but crazy enough that we would be...

1000 miles, 3 national parks, two people and 1...
Balancing a need for adventure and a sense of fiscal responsibility we began our foray into motorcycle camping by purchasing a compact two person tent, two sleeping bags, and a pair of blow up pillows. With our new purchases and a few necessities packed we set out over Memorial Day weekend to recapture some of the spontaneity we had left somewhere on roadside of becoming responsible adults. ...

Santa Fe Trip
July 15th, 2010 Left from Flagstaff. Drove through storm. Stayed in Grants NM during Fire and Ice Rally after not being able to camp due to gates being locked at 7:00 p.m. at Bluewater Lake State Park. Although we were sad because Bluewater looked really pretty, we were excited about the rally. . July 16th Took Route 66 east to Alburquerque. The scenery was very pretty and there were lots of...

Looks like motorcycle trip to Death Valley,...
Did the budget and it looks like our motorcycle trip to death valley is on and we don’t even have to sleep in the tiny tent. Yay! Day One looks like motorcycling through Vegas and staying the night at the hot springs in Tecopa http://www.tecopaca.com/Lodging.htm , Day Two Death Valley http://www.nps.gov/deva/index.htm for wildflowers...

After Circus Classes
I share a few major characteristic with the character I was named for from Tom Robbins’ “Another Roadside Attraction” I like butterflies, cactus, and the infinite goof. I, like Amanda, amended the list to motorcycles. I am creative right before a major thunderstorm (or is that just from living in Arizona) and is at peace when walking in the rain. Other than that I have more in common with Nearly...

Short ride from Flagstaff to Winslow to Dilkon and...
On February 13th we took a short ride from our house to Winslow for lunch and looped back through Dilkon and back home. This ride took us around four hours from our house including time for lunch. It has some moderate elevation changes, a few curves, and the road is well maintained. At the time we rode it was a little chilly and would recommend this run closer to spring than winter. ...
